The corresponding picture shows some random objects from around my family’s house – some coasters my Mum has, a notebook of mine and a little sign my Dad made before I was even born. What I realised and was amazed at is how little attention I actually pay to these, how I so frequently walk past them yet so infrequently actually stop and really look at them to absorb their wonderful messages. For some other items, maybe I never truly have.
There is so much beauty in this world and yet we only pay attention to a fraction of it. Every once in a while I remember this and start trying to take the time to really focus on everything around me, the wealth of wonder out there.
Stop, look around and take the time to read those messages on your refrigerator magnets, mugs, walls, bookmarks and more; take a minute to read that interesting looking article or that rousing video you saw listed on Facebook or Twitter; expand your peripheral vision, look up when you would normally look down; try to listen to the lyrics in a song – even if you are terrible at hearing lyrics like I am – and take notice of whatever it is that you usually would ignore.
I’m not saying that there is no reason for you ever to feel down, uninspired and/or unmotivated; that happens to everyone at some point, even the best of us. However, what I am saying is that there is always inspiration, motivation and uplifting ideas around us to give us a boost. Should you need a shot in the arm, open your eyes nice and wide, take a stroll around your home and see what you find – it might just surprise you.
